WHAT? The transmission system works with the engine to provide power to your vehicle to make it move. There are three different types of transmissions: Automatic, manual and CVT.
Services Performed: Remove and replace fluid, change filter when applicable. Not all vehicles have a transmission filter that can be changed out. Check your owner's manual to check for your vehicle.
WHY? Over time, fluid breaks down from heat and is contaminated by bits of metal from the transmission and other debris . This may cause valves to stick and wear internal components. As the fluid breaks down or is contaminated it will cause internal issues such as drivability issues, problems shifting, etc. . The transmission is a closed unit which means individual parts of the transmission can't be serviced or repaired. The cost of replacing a transmission is expensive (between 2500.00—$4000.00.)

Signs that your vehicle may have contaminated transmission fluid: -vehicle stalls for one or two seconds before moving after having been put in gear. -surging of the vehicle -slipping gears -problems shifting through the gears If there are no other problems with the transmission, a transmission flush may help. You should be aware that if the vehicle is displaying these symptoms, your dirty transmission may have already caused bigger problems which is why it is important to know when the transmission fluid in your vehicle needs to be changed (owner’s manual or general industry standard)

Car Care Tip: Transmission fluid doesn't burn off like oil so if you are low on transmission fluid you have a fluid leak. Get it found and fixed immediately. The repair of a transmission hose leak will prevent the transmission being damaged and is much less expensive than replacing the vehicle's transmission.
