Our Journey

Tracing Our Path

1998

Chris Ferland, one of the brains behind Good News Auto and Driven to Renew, kicked a 15-year habit of crack cocaine, booze, and other drugs. He left the streets of Vancouver and headed back to Edmonton to start fresh.

2002

Car Care Ministry begins at Sherwood Park Alliance Church, addressing the challenge of vehicle safety for those facing financial constraints.

2012

Good News Auto is established in response to community demand, aiming to provide accessible, year-round mechanic services while generating funds for outreach programs.

2015

Introduction of Car Care workshops, offering valuable automotive education to community members, empowering them to understand and maintain their vehicles.

2017

Launch of the JumpStart Fund, providing financial assistance for safety repairs to individuals unable to access traditional support programs.

2019

Journey Cafe was established as a hub for support and connection for those overcoming various life challenges. Please note that it is no longer owned by Good News Auto but continues to provide valuable services to the community.

2022

Kimberly Ferland, co-founder of Good News Auto and Jumpstart passed away from her battle with cancer. Chris Ferland has the task of rebranding JumpStart and turns it into JumpStart 2.0 now Driven to Renew with the addition of our sponsor a repair program.

2025

Chris has found love with Shelene, and she has become a remarkable part of Good News Auto. They were married on September 8th, 2024, and soon after, they worked together to create the Driven to Renew Foundation, which was officially launched on their 1st wedding anniversary this year.
